Moon Rise on Caratera Sur

At our home on Caratera Sur we had a beautiful garden. We spent so many wonderful hours on the veranda, with the play of green, blue, gold in trees and flowers. But nighttime was especially beautiful. We would watch the the darkness sink through the branches of the trees, and as the trees began their dance in silhouette, the moon would stretch across the sky. It was a beautiful sight. I miss Nicaragua.

Catarina, Nicaragua's Garden City

Catarina is just on the outskirts of Masaya and is a neighboring village to San Juan de Oriente. It is known for several unique characteristics, one of which is the gorgeous and ubiquitous nurseries located around the town, and up the main street.


It is hard to pass these lush gardens with all the potted and hanging plants without planning an entire renovation of whatever garden you might have wherever you live!

Catarina is known for a number of other special features, including the Mirador overlooking Lago Apoyo, bamboo furniture, and cedar hand-carved furniture and accessories. Look for NicaPOD's about these topics in the future!

Beautiful Hands and Beautiful Woman

This photograph is by Kevin Gallagher, who has done some traveling around Nicaragua. This lady was on the beach at Jiquilillo on the northwest Pacific coast of Nicaragua. As Kevin says:
"The village is below Estero Padre Ramos about 3 miles on the Pacific side. We came to Jiquilillo on a whim because it just looked like a cool place on Google Earth and I wanted to visit Estero Padre Ramos which is just north of there on the Pacific coast. We also wanted to explore the Consiguina peninsula and possibly explore some rumored tall cliffs which meet the Ocean on the Gulf of Fonseca side of the Peninsula."
